Looking for a last-minute boost to your garden? Here are some of Hometown Australia’s Grounds Keepers best gardening tips to help keep your gardens looking tip top.
I’m relatively new in my role as the Grounds Keeper at the Cobb Haven Community, but I am already finding it very enjoyable and extremely rewarding.
My top gardening tip is: To keep your lawns looking happy, be sure to mow and apply fertiliser in times of need (when lawns look sad or hungry), and in the summertime after the heat of the day make sure to apply plenty of water. Lastly, always be sure to regularly give your lawn love and care.

I moved from southern New South Wales to Queensland and have been with Hometown Australia for a little over three years now. I enjoy maintaining the community’s common areas and find my role fulfilling knowing that the residents appreciate a hard day’s work.
My top gardening tip is: I always look for opportunities to re-plant and re-cycle plants. Every week I remove the green waste from our residents individual gardening spaces and look for opportunities to re-plant or re-cycle the healthy plants destined for the rubbish tip! Whether it’s succulents that have outgrown a pot, a Bromeliad that has self-propagated or an Agave that’s grown too big. I see these healthy plants as an opportunity to improve a common garden area or beautify an area in need of a little bit of TLC.

I started at the Sunrise Community two years ago, which was around the same time that we welcomed our first resident into the community! I have fifteen years’ experience working in similar roles. My top gardening tip is simple but effective:
Water, fertilise, water!
