Community Creativity Shines in the Arts & Crafts Competition 2026

Residents showcased their incredible creativity and talents once again in this year’s Hometown Australia Arts & Crafts Competition. From beautifully crafted embroidery and appliqué pieces to impressive woodworking projects, paintings and drawings, the standard of entries was outstanding.

The judges were inspired by the passion, skill and dedication demonstrated across all submissions, making the selection process no easy task. Every entry reflected the unique talents and creativity within our communities, and we extend our sincere congratulations and thanks to everyone who participated.

This year, Hometown Australia has awarded a First Prize and a Highly Commended Award. Please join us in congratulating…

First Prize...Congratulations to Maria from Glenfern!

Titled “Old Blue Eyes” this impressive piece of art has been carefully created using coloured pencils. Maria shared “It took many layers. I was very pleased with the life-like effect. I learned a great deal while creating this, particularly about observing and building up texture”.

Highly Commended Award…Angela from Beachfront!

Titled “Healing”, Angela paints to express her connection to culture, Country and ancestors. Angela shared, “As a self-taught Kamilaroi artist living and working on Biripi and Worimi Country, I discovered painting in high school while exploring my cultural heritage. Painting helps me see the world through a different lens and connect to my culture, Country and ancestors”.
