Communities Unite for Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea
Across Hometown Australia’s communities, residents came together in support of Cancer Council’s Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, demonstrating the generosity, spirit and compassion that make our communities so special.
From New South Wales to Queensland, community centres were filled with laughter, friendship and fundraising as residents gathered to support a cause that has touched the lives of so many Australians. Homemade treats, raffles, cent sales, lucky door prizes, quizzes and games brought neighbours together while helping raise vital funds for cancer research and support services.
These memorable events were made possible through the dedication of resident volunteers, social committees and Community Managers with generous support from local businesses who generously donated prizes, food and vouchers.
Attendance across the events ranged from intimate gatherings to community centres filled to capacity, with residents, family members and guests joining together throughout May and June. Whether it was a giant brownie, a teapot tossing competition, raffle draws or simply sharing a cup of tea with neighbours, every event reflected the caring nature of Hometown Australia’s communities.
One resident from Bridge Street shared “We’ve all heard stories of how the Cancer Council has supported people through their cancer journey, so we wanted to do our part. With the wonderful support of our community manager Joy, our social committee organised our Biggest Morning Tea and the whole community got involved.
Thank you to Hometown for the delicious sausage rolls, party pies and other treats – I ‘m sure no one went home hungry! It was so wonderful seeing our community come together to support each other and a worthy cause.”
Collectively, Hometown Australia residents raised more than $13,000 for the Cancer Council, with individual community fundraising efforts ranging from hundreds to thousands of dollars. The remarkable results exceeded expectations in many locations and highlighted the generosity of residents united by a shared purpose.
More importantly, these events highlighted the true power of community. While the funds raised will make a meaningful difference to those impacted by cancer, the friendships strengthened, memories created and support shared throughout the events are also significant.
