Just Like a Resort – Discover Oasis Redhead
For just half the price of homes in the surrounding suburb, retirees Margy and Marty Wooster are enjoying all the pleasures of beachside living at Hometown Australia’s Oasis Redhead over 50s community.
Located just 18km south of the Newcastle CBD, Oasis Redhead when fully developed will include around 250 homes along with a clubhouse, swimming pool, tennis court and recreation areas. Oasis Redhead is located around 400m from Redhead Beach, with a nature reserve containing sand dunes and a lagoon separating the beach and community. The beach is so close that residents can go to sleep at night enjoying the restful sounds of waves and cooling sea breezes.
“We feel like we are in a resort. We get the sea breezes, sounds and birds and the best sunrises over the ocean. It takes us only three minutes to drive to the beach, where we can walk our dog on the sand, said Marty.
Redhead Beach is not the only nearby attraction with the community also just a few hundred metres from the Fernleigh Track, a popular walking and cycling path created along the route of a former rail corridor. Redhead village and private and public hospitals are other nearby destinations.
The Wooster's enjoying nearby Redhead Beach
The Woosters were among the first to move into Oasis Redhead, after relocating from Newcastle around 12 months ago. They say that, within this time, a strong community has formed and residents are taking it upon themselves to organise activities including book clubs, bike riding, sewing and table tennis events at a nearby club. A coffee van is also making a weekly appearance, if weather permits.
Both prospective and current residents are also connected via Facebook groups. Marty compares this friendly and social environment to his time living in a general community home in a Hunter region, where he barely spoke to his neighbours. The Oasis Redead community will also be strengthened by a new state-of-the-art clubhouse, which is expected to begin construction soon. The clubhouse will include many high-end amenities, including a gym, sauna, outdoor pool and spa, and activities, craft and games rooms. It will also include an activity lawn, picnic area, library and cinema, and an alfresco deck with views across the dunes.
Nine New Home Designs to Choose From
Like many other Oasis Redhead residents, the Woosters are thoroughly enjoying their new architecturally-designed home. Homes at Oasis Redhead are generally two-bedroom, with the option to turn part of the living area into a third bedroom or study, and have spacious double garages. A number of the designs also feature skillion roof designs which allow natural light to stream into living areas via clerestory windows. You’ll also find alfresco living areas, leading to fenced gardens, and modern kitchens with island benches.
“The moment we moved in, it was a lovely relief, as we were very happy with the quality of the home. The only issue is that we don’t spend enough time at home, we are always out and about, said Margy.
All up, there are nine home designs, with a range of sizes, colours and architectural features, including two display homes available to inspect on-site. New homes are currently available from $865,000, which is around half the $1.6m median price for homes in the surrounding suburb of Redhead in July 2025. What’s more, unlike the surrounding homes, no stamp duty or council rates are payable.
This is because the homes are available via the land lease model, under which residents purchase a new or existing home and then enjoy a long-term and secure lease over the land on which the home stands. Importantly, this arrangement also means that residents also retain any capital gains when they decide to sell their home and no exit fees are payable. A weekly site fee applies. Hometown Australia Sales Consultant Catherine Booker says there is strong interest in homes in Oasis Redhead’s future development stages, including from downsizers from the Sydney and Hunter regions. “I think it is unique to have a land lease community like this which is both within an urban region with all the facilities and infrastructure which comes with this, but also in a quiet spot right on the edge of the coastline. It’s no surprise we are seeing such a strong community forming here,” said Catherine.
