On the Road to the Grand Final

Hometown communities have been preparing for months for the State of Origin Bowling Competition 2023.  Teams were formed, qualifying and preliminary games played and on Saturday 27th May the winning teams were selected to represent their state in the Grand Final on Saturday 10th June.

The Queensland teams had a play off at Green Wattle on May 27 and Anthony Mather, Relief Manager for Queensland said,

“The three mixed pairs team played hard. All three games were very close, and it came down to the wire. In fact, all three teams won one game, so to pick a winner we had do a count back.”

On May 27 the NSW teams played at the Sunrise community in Port Stephens to see which teams would represent NSW at the State of Origin Bowling Competition Grand Final. Leisel Dawson, Community Manager at Sunrise said that as an organiser of the State of Origin she enjoyed seeing the communities coming together. She shared a couple of stories she’d heard that show that community spirit in action:

“I was told about a mixed pairs team from Valhalla who competed in the Port Stephens/ Central Coast game against Homestead and had never met before. By the end of the game the Homestead residents had offered a room for them to stay the following week so they could attend the state finals as supporters.”
“I also heard about a lady from Homestead who was looking for someone to join her in a bowling team. She approached Jaki. the community manager, who found a player so they could enter as a ladies pair. They lived in the same community but didn’t know each other. It was great to hear that their team made it through to represent NSW in the State of Origin Grand Final.”

Wishing all finalists the best of luck! We look forward to sharing the winners with you shortly.
