Maggie’s Ms-Fits take on the challenge!

Many of Hometown Australia’s residents have been busy keeping active and clocking up the steps in hopes to win the Walk, Swim, Dance…. Across Australia Competition. In March Hometown Australia launched the competition to encourage residents to take part in living an active and healthy lifestyle, by forming a team within their community to take the same number of steps as the length of Australia from Perth to Sydney – 3,935kms!

The competition has received great support with many communities taking part in the challenge choosing their own group activity from running, walking, water aerobics to Zumba! One community who has been hop, skipping and jumping their way through the competition are residents from Beachfront in Halliday’s Point on the coast of NSW.

“It has been great to see residents come together each week and cheer each other on, whilst making new friendships and keeping active,” said Melissa Thornley, Community Manager at Beachfront.

Cleverly named Maggie’s Ms-Fits, the group is led by resident Maggie, who has been holding three session of aerobics a week with up to 20 residents joining per session. “Maggie’s Ms-Fits chose aerobics as the exercise of choice as the group felt it would be an enjoyable activity and promoted a healthy lifestyle,” said Maggie.

Three times a week the Ocean Room at the community turns into the residents very own studio where they stream from an over 50s online exercise platform via Youtube. “Everyone is enjoying the activity and it’s something to look forward to whilst socialising and keeping fit! The group will definitely be continuing their sessions even after the competition ends,” concluded Maggie.

Residents are in their last month of the competition before it concludes on Wednesday, 1 June 2022. We look forward to announcing the winning team shortly!
