Fundraising at Teraglin Lakeshore

When people work together, it's amazing what they can achieve.

Fifteen years ago, John Smith, a homeowner from Teraglin Lakeshore at Chain Valley Bay decided to raise funds for the Kids with Cancer Foundation. He collected, crushed and recycled cans as well as organiing a ’round Australia trek’ where residents doing their daily walk would donate $1 per kilometre to Kids with Cancer. Soon enough the whole community got involved adopting the mindset that every dollar helps.

Four years ago, Woolworths installed a ‘hole in the wall’, where recycled cans and bottles would earn a ten cent for every item returned. Once again the community worked together to place drink containers in specially marked recycle bins, and community members Arthur Hendrie, Barry Guy, Robert Rhodes, Jim Taylor and Len Evans take turns collecting the recycle bins and transporting them to the hole in the wall. Over the past four years they have recycled around 100,000 items with all the money received donated to the Kids with Cancer Foundation. It is a real labour of love and we’re grateful to the ‘Hole in the Wall Gang’ for their hard work and the community at Teraglin Lakeshore are very proud of the inspiring efforts of these men and their commitment to helping this worthy cause.

Teraglin Lakeshore is in Chain Valley Bay is set on the shores of beautiful Lake Macquarie. To learn more about this community visit the Teraglin Lakeshore page.
