A Celebration of Creativity: Arts & Craft Competition 2025
Residents were bursting with creativity at this year’s Hometown Australia Arts & Craft Competition with a range of submissions from embroidery and applique pieces to sculptures, woodwork, and paintings. It was a difficult choice for the judges to award the national winner with residents displaying their passion, enthusiasm, and craftsmanship. FIRST PRIZE... Congratulations to Dorothea from Newport!
Titled ‘Blue Madonna’ this impressive piece of art has been carefully created using acrylic, enamel, spray paint, and ink on canvas. Dorothea shared her inspiration for this piece is multifaceted and quite personal. “I approach making art from a do it now and work out what it could mean later,” said Dorothea. Congratulations Dorothea!

RUNNER UP... Diane from Oasis Redhead
Diane from Oasis submitted an applique machine embroidery of Australian birds. The applique is 130cm wide and 37cm high and took approx. 7 hours to construct with the embroidery taking 179,548 stitches and 187 changes of colour thread. “We have had all these Australian birds visit our family home garden. Now we are at Oasis Redhead with new trees and shrubs we are hoping most of these birds will visit. Some already have,” said Diane. Congratulations Diane!
